1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Essential oils (EOs) are complex mixtures of volatile secondary metabolites produced by medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs), mainly including terpenes, terpenoids and phenylpropanoid/benzenoid derivatives. Their composition depends on the plant species, chemotype, organ, developmental stage, environmental conditions and post-harvest processing, and directly affects EO yield, EO profile, biological properties, standardization and industrial value. This narrative and conceptual review connects plant biosynthesis, environmental regulation, matrix selection and extraction strategy as interdependent determinants of EO quality. Terpenoid constituents originate mainly from the mevalonate (MVA) and methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathways, whereas phenylpropanoid and benzenoid volatiles derive largely from the shikimate/phenylalanine pathway. Conventional extraction methods, such as hydrodistillation and steam distillation, remain widely used, while intensified and complementary approaches, including microwave-assisted methods, ultrasound pretreatment, supercritical CO
