Longitudinal associations between physical activity and negative emotions among college students: the chain mediating roles of exercise self-efficacy and psychological resilience.
Article in Frontiers in psychology, 2026. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. Cited by 4 papers.
What it found
Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.
The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.
The trial behind it
Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.
Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract
Objective: This study examined the longitudinal association between physical activity and negative emotions among Chinese college students and tested the chain mediating roles of exercise self-efficacy and psychological resilience. Methods: A three-wave longitudinal study was conducted over 1 year among students from two universities in Hunan and Jiangxi Provinces, China. The final analytic sample included 877 college students. Physical activity and baseline negative emotions were assessed at Time 1, exercise self-efficacy at Time 2, and psychological resilience and negative emotions at Time 3. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, and chain mediation analyses were conducted using SPSS 26.0 and the PROCESS macro. Gender, grade, and baseline negative emotions were controlled. Results: After controlling for covariates, T1 physical activity was negatively associated with T3 negative emotions, Conclusion: Physical activity was associated with lower negative emotions among college students, partly through higher exercise self-efficacy and psychological resilience. These findings provide longitudinal evidence for university-based mental health promotion through physical activity.
