Risk factors of venous thromboembolism in ICU patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Synthesis in Annals of medicine, 2026. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. Cited by 4 papers.
What it found
Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.
The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.
The trial behind it
Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.
Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract
objectiveThis study aimed to identify risk factors associated with the development of VTE in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
methodsA systematic literature search was conducted
resultsA total of 2465 relevant studies were identified through the systematic search, of which 30 were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled data showed that the following were significant risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in ICU patients: central venous catheterization (OR = 2.67, 95% CI: 1.67-4.28;
conclusionInvasive mechanical ventilation, central venous catheterization, and elevated D-dimer levels are associated with VTE risk, supported by relatively high-quality evidence. These findings may help identify ICU patients at higher risk of VTE, inform the development of risk assessment models for patient stratification, and ultimately contribute to improved prognosis through optimal screening and management strategies.
