1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) constitute a structurally diverse class of bioactive molecules with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and immunomodulatory properties. Their high efficacy, low propensity for resistance development, biodegradability, and lack of drug residues make AMPs promising alternatives to antibiotics in animal agriculture. This review summarizes current AMP classification schemes and their class-specific structural and functional characteristics, providing a basis for further application-oriented research. The biological activities of AMPs are discussed in the context of their antimicrobial modes of action and immune modulation of host immunity. Evidence from swine production is used to illustrate the practical potential of AMPs in enhancing animal health, reducing antibiotic usage, and improving the safety of animal-derived foods. Finally, particular emphasis is placed on emerging multidisciplinary strategies, including peptide engineering, nanomaterial-enabled targeted delivery systems, advanced chemical synthesis techniques, and artificial intelligence-assisted peptide design, which aim to improve their stability, efficacy, and applicability in agricultural and food systems.
