Article in BMJ open, 2025. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. It is linked to trial NCT07346417 (Erector Spinae Plane Block Versus Quadratus Lumborum Block for Post Operative Analgesia in Pediatric Kidney Surgery), which is not on this map. Cited by 1 paper.

1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Abstract

introductionEmerging studies have compared the analgesic effects of quadratus lumborum block versus caudal block in paediatric surgeries, but the results remain controversial. This protocol of a systematic review and meta-analysis aims to determine whether quadratus lumborum block is better than caudal block for postoperative analgesia in paediatric surgeries. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library and Web of Science will be systematically searched from inception to 30 May 2025. The language will be restricted to English. Randomised controlled trials that compared the efficacy and safety of quadratus lumborum block and caudal block in paediatric patients will be included. The duration of analgesia, defined as the time to first analgesic request, will be the primary outcome. The secondary outcomes will include total opioid consumption over the first 24 hours postoperatively, pain scores at rest and during movement, and the incidence of side effects. RevMan V.5.4 software will be used for the statistical analysis. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach will be applied to assess the evidence quality. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethical approval is not applicable. The results will be publicly published when completed. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42025637094.
