Association between serum carotenoids levels and endometriosis risk: evidence from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
Article in Frontiers in nutrition, 2025. The graph could read no effect estimate from its abstract, so it casts no vote on the map. Cited by 6 papers.
What it found
Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.
The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.
The trial behind it
Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.
Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract
Background: The relationship between serum levels of carotenoids and endometriosis remains largely unknown. The aim of this study is to assess the association between serum levels of major carotenoids ( Methods: The data were obtained from the 2001-2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES), which included a total of 3,636 women aged 20 to 54. Serum levels of Results: Weighted multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that, after adjusting for all covariates taken into account, there was a significant association between serum lutein/zeaxanthin levels and reduced risk of endometriosis (Quartile 3 vs. Quartile 1: odds ratio [OR] = 0.62, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.42-0.90; Quartile 4 vs. Quartile 1: OR = 0.54, 95% CI: 0.36-0.81, Conclusion: Serum lutein/zeaxanthin levels may offer protective effects against endometriosis in specific subpopulations. Further prospective research is necessary to validate these findings.
