1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of exposure of small and large intestinal epithelial cells to the bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on uptake of free form of vitamin B1, i.e., thiamin. The intestinal tract encounters two sources of thiamin: diet and the gut microbiota. Absorption of thiamin in both the small and large intestine occurs via a carrier-mediated process that involves thiamin transporters 1 and 2 (THTR-1 and -2). Complementary in vitro (human duodenal epithelial HuTu-80 cells and human colonic epithelial NCM460 cells), in vivo (mice), and ex vivo (human primary differentiated enteroid and colonoid monolayers) models were used. The results showed that exposure to LPS causes a significant inhibition in carrier-mediated [
