1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

objectiveThis study aims to examine the possible relationship between body composition parameters, sarcopenia, and clinical outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who received immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment.

methodsThree online databases, including Embase, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library, were thoroughly searched for literature describing the relationship between body composition parameters, sarcopenia, and outcomes of ICI-treated HCC patients from the start of each database to 21 January 2024. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to rate the quality of the studies. The assessed outcomes included hazard ratio (HR) for OS and PFS, as well as odds ratio (OR) for ORR and DCR.

resultsThis analysis included a total of 15 articles with a combined patient cohort of 1543 individuals. The results demonstrated that HCC patients with low skeletal muscle index (SMI) had significantly inferior OS (HR: 1.68,

conclusionThe presence of sarcopenia and low SMI in HCC patients undergoing treatment with ICIs was found to be related to inferior treatment response and reduced long-term effectiveness.
