1 · What the graph read from it

What it found

Each row is one number read from the abstract, on the scale the paper reported it, with its interval. Left of the dashed line favours the treatment, right favours the comparator. Under each row is the sentence it came from. New to these charts? A ten-minute tutorial.

The abstract states no effect estimate the extractor could read, or names no intervention and outcome on the map, so this paper lights no cell and moves no belief. It is still indexed, cited and linked below.

2 · The registry

The trial behind it

Trials whose registry record cites this paper, or whose number appears in the abstract. A trial that started after this paper was published is citing it as background, not reporting it.

Neither the registry nor the abstract names a trial number. If this is a trial report, that itself is worth knowing.

Abstract

objectiveLung cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. MicroRNAs regulate more than 60% of human genes, including tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes. Accordingly, they can affect cancer risk. This study aimed to evaluate the role of serum miR-148a as a non-invasive biomarker in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients and to assess the correlation between miR-148a and Bcl-2, as one of its target proteins. MATERIALS AND

methodsA total of 50 newly diagnosed NSCLC cases and 30 apparently healthy controls were recruited in this study. MiR-148a level was measured by TaqMan- Real time RT-PCR assay and Bcl-2 level was measured by ELISA.

resultsSignificant lower expression of serum miR-148a and higher serum Bcl-2 levels were observed in NSCLC patients as compared to the control group (p.
